Dr. Swank is currently a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry in the department of Dental Public Health and Curator of the Dr. Samuel D. Harris National Museum of Dentistry. Dr. Swank joined the museum in 1997 and the department of Dental Public Health in 2012. He earned his DDS degree from the UMSOD in 1989 and has two Master's degrees from the University of Maryland Global Campus in Healthcare Administration and Business Administration. Ha also has a Master's level certificate in Museum Studies from George Washington University.
Dr. Swank has provided lectures and presentations on dental history throughout the United States and in Austria and China. He has been interviewed on numerous radios shows and podcasts and has even appeared in a couple of television episodes.
